Soul Cry: I Was There When
August 22nd, 2021/Lookout
Title: I was there when
And let us not grow weary of doing good, for in due season we will reap, if we do not give up. - Gal 6:9
I’M NOT LIVING FOR THE MOMENT, I’M HERE FOR THE MOMENTS THAT SHAPE MOVEMENT!
I’m going to preach this for you from God, but this word is for me today as well.
Story about Jules:
- When he showed up on a Sunday that we were feeling low
- When he gave his life to Jesus
- When he was baptized with his wife
- When he started serving and felt a call to ministry
- When he started seeing miracles in his life
- When he and Sam got pregnant and are starting their family together
I’m able to say “I was there when”!!!
“Movement is not a moment, but momentum.”
It’s continuing to take steps even when you don’t understand
It’s staying the course even when you don’t know where you’re going
It’s persevering even in the middle of your trials!
When we persevere and keep listening to the voice of the Holy Spirit, we live in the miracle of today.
Movement is not a single moment, but moments of obedience that lead to momentum. C’mon church we need a move. A generation to rise up and say I’m in this thing for the long haul.
I’m gonna speak out for truth, stand up for love, and step forward in faith!
And let us not grow weary of doing good, for in due season we will reap, if we do not give up. - Gal 6:9
Doing good…. The What… Here’s how I’d apply that:
Speak Out for TRUTH
How many of you know that a prophetic force will bring about opposition in your Life!
Speaking out for the hurt, broken, and misunderstood.
In a world and culture that is quick to divide and tear apart, we need a church quick to unify. This is our soul cry. We are a family, United as One. Unique as One. For those that feel suppressed, oppressed, and silenced, we see you, hear you, and celebrate your life. This is our soul cry. In an age where friendly fire is standard operating procedure, we stand in front and take your pain, shame, and grief. We protect our family and speak truth in the face of lies. This is our soul cry. Where critics and cynics dominate the space, we will shout louder, drowning in praise. This is our soul cry.
Anybody ready to speak truth in the face of lies?!
Stand Up for LOVE
Love is not polarizing, it’s patient
Love is not critical, it’s kind
Love does not envy, it empathizes
Love does not boast, it believes
Love is not irritable, but sometimes irrational
Love is not rude, but sometimes reckless
Love ALWAYS perseveres & NEVER loses faith
Love ALWAYS looks for the best & NEVER looks back
Love stays faithful to the end.
Step Forward in FAITH
We celebrate your next step as much as your first step. And we’ll celebrate till your last step.
And let us not grow weary of doing good, for in due season we will reap, if we do not give up. - Gal 6:9
As for you, brothers, do not grow weary in doing good. - 2 Thes 3:13
Praying at all times in the Spirit, with all prayer and supplication. To that end keep alert with all perseverance, making supplication for all the saints, - Eph 6:18
It’s almost as if Paul is trying to tell all the churches something… here’s how I’d put it: if you don’t quit, you win! Stay in the long game, run at the pace that gets you to the finish line!
When you ask someone how they are doing, generally it’s “I’m fine” or “I’m tired”…. Or even worse “I’m busy”. Generally when I say I’m tired, it’s not because I’m doing the right thing, it’s usually because I’m doing my thing. Even if… somebody say even if… even if I’m tired, I’ll persevere.
A play on our English word: Per-severe - Abide by strictly
Per - thoroughly
Severe - strict
Another meaning for the word severe is intense or a negative action. What is something hurtful in your life? What’s something hard in your life? What’s something painful in your life?
When things get severe, persevere
Sever - to cut or remove
It’s impossible to move forward and persevere holding on to the wrong Hope!
When pain comes, pray, praise, and persevere.
Pray
Praise
Persevere
How quickly do you close the gap when things get hard. How quickly do you come back to relationship, intimacy, and the presence of the Father.
I want to tell somebody today to close the gap.
Success is not in how big you do it, but how you keep doing it.
Success is not in how you feel doing it, but how you keep doing it.
Success is not in how well you do it, but in how you keep doing it.
I shared the gospel today, but I fumbled a bit… keep doing it.
I tried meditation and prayer today, but I only made it 5 minutes… keep doing it.
And let us not grow weary of doing good, for in due season we will reap, if we do not give up. - Gal 6:9
Closing:
I’ll be there when…
I’ll be there when a REVIVAL sparked in Boulder
I’ll be there when my neighbors in the city say yes to Jesus and their families are baptized
I’ll be there when the mayor, city council, and community leaders get on fire for Jesus!
Will you be there when?
We’ve officially been in the pandemic longer as a church than out of a pandemic and we’re still here! Still taking steps of faith!
When God does it, it’s going to be so obvious to the world that it was Him and only Him. He gets all the glory!
It’s one thing to do it, it’s another to do it again.
Perspective shifts perseverance
I’ve seen Him do it… and I believe He can do it again.

People will give to a cause, but they will sacrifice for a mission
People will leave for an opportunity, but they will persevere for a mission
People will live for a purpose, but they will die for a mission
