Vision Sunday: More Than Enough

November 3rd, 2024/Casey Middle School

Pray:

Vision Sunday has become a tradition of this house. We used to do it at different times in the new year, but as the years have progressed we keep moving earlier in the previous year. The reason for this is because I want to end the year in expectation and start the year with execution, so come January 1 we will be ready!

Vision Sunday reminds us where we came from and reinforces where we are heading.

How it all started:

  1. Moving our family of 6 out to Boulder Colorado with a vision and the power of the Holy Spirit. We moved to Boulder on June 5th, 2017. Three months after landing in Boulder we started gathering together as a church.

    1. We had an assignment from our board to meet a hundred people in a hundred days… being the competitive person that I am, I wanted to attempt a hundred people every day. But that was our boots on the ground assignment… meet people and point them to Jesus.
    2. First Sunday Gathering At Nevei Kodesh (September 10th, 2017)
    3. First Official Launch Sunday (August 19th, 2018)
    4. First Sunday At Lookout (October 11th, 2020)
    5. Launch Sunday At Riverside (February 21st, 2021)
    6. First Combined Sunday At Casey (April 17th, 2022)
    7. As far as Sundays go, we’ve met in 7 different locations, but we’ve rented out 30 different venues in Boulder over the last 7 years for events, conferences, and Love Boulder outreach.

Mission: GOAL

From the very beginning, in our home in Nashville Tennessee, the mission as we came to Boulder was simple, our heart was to meet people where they are and point them to Jesus. And success for us was not a big church or thriving ministries, success has always been obedience. Keeping our “Yes” on the table before God and continuing to show up wherever He has called us to go.

“Meet people where they are and point them to Jesus.” “Meet people…” because people are created in the image of God, there is deep and real value in every single person on the planet. “where they are…” because everyone is at a different place on their spiritual journey. We don’t expect people to meet us where we are, we are called to go to them! “and point them to Jesus.”, not drag them to Jesus, not point them to Pinewood, but to both show and share the love of Jesus with everyone we meet.

Great moves of God are often followed by simple acts of obedience.

Values: CULTURE

If our mission is the “why”, then our values are the “how”. And we’ve identified 7 values that help to create culture, give direction, and solidify our beliefs. As a Church we have 7 values that align with the mission and purpose of the Church and as believers. We have values to keep us focused and aligned with what God has called us to do and be.

  1. Jesus is our message
  2. Connection is our culture
  3. Generosity is our privilege
  4. Prayer is our priority
  5. Servant leadership is our calling
  6. Worship is our weapon
  7. Honor is our commitment

Looking Back 2024: Celebrations

“12 be careful not to forget the Lord who brought you out of the land of Egypt, out of the place of slavery.” - Deuteronomy 6:12

Here, Moses is urging the Israelites not to let comfort lead them into complacency, where they might forget the God who rescued them from bondage. It’s not just about recalling history; it’s about building a foundation of trust and dependence on Him for today and tomorrow.

“Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today, and forever.” - Hebrews 13:8 CSB

“11 I will remember the Lord’s works; yes, I will remember your ancient wonders. 12 I will reflect on all you have done and meditate on your actions.” - Psalm 77:11-12 CSB

In Joshua 4:1-9, God commands the Israelites to set up twelve stones from the Jordan River as a memorial after He miraculously stopped its waters, allowing them to cross into the Promised Land. These stones served as a physical reminder of God’s faithfulness and a way to teach future generations about His provision. It encourages us, too, to set up our own “stones of remembrance,” moments or items that remind us of God’s work in our lives and help us remain grateful and faithful, especially during times when we need to remember His past provision.

So let’s look back over this past year and celebrate together what God has done in Boulder and around the world.

Based on what we value, God has given us priorities in which we focus our attention.

Looking Ahead At 2025: Vision

We don’t just have a Vision Sunday, we’re actually going to have a collection of talks over the next 3 Sundays. The purpose of this series is to help give clarity on where we are going in 2025.

The Lord answered me: Write down this vision; clearly inscribe it on tablets so one may easily read it. 3 For the vision is yet for the appointed time; it testifies about the end and will not lie. Though it delays, wait for it, since it will certainly come and not be late. - Habakkuk 2:2-3

Habakkuk was writing down what God revealed to him. Vision there means God’s revelation, what He has shown us in His Word. So we start by asking what He has said. Sight is what you see with your eyes open, vision is what you see with your eyes closed. From there we ask Him for eyes to see what could be.

“Where there is no vision, the people perish: but he that keepeth the law, happy is he.” - Proverbs 29:18 KJV

“Without revelation people run wild, but one who follows divine instruction will be happy.” - Proverbs 29:18 CSB

We are sharing a collective vision, but it will require a personal vision to be successful.

It is time to take a step by faith into a bigger vision for your life. A bigger vision for your family. A bigger vision for the city. A bigger vision for your finances. A bigger vision for your future! Everybody needs a vision!

Vision is when frustration for the present meets passion for the future.

“3 They said to me, “The remnant in the province, who survived the exile, are in great trouble and disgrace. Jerusalem’s wall has been broken down, and its gates have been burned.” 4 When I heard these words, I sat down and wept. I mourned for a number of days, fasting and praying before the God of the heavens.” - Nehemiah 1:3-4 CSB

Vision is often birthed out of brokenness. Maybe the very thing you are frustrated about or broken over, is the very thing you are called to build, called to create, called to lay down your life for.

Previous Themes:

Discipleship - Every year, we ask God to reveal a theme that will guide us, grow us, and ultimately glorify Him in our church and our city. These themes help us align our hearts and efforts as one body.

  1. 2019: Make Room
  2. 2020: Build a Bridge
  3. 2021: Breakthrough
  4. 2022: Rooted
  5. 2023: Faith To Build
  6. 2024: Stay The Course (Highlight moments in our church where God gave us the strength and resilience to persevere)
  7. ANNOUNCE WORD FOR 2025: More Than Enough

Unpacking the Theme - “More Than Enough”

  1. This theme speaks to the abundant, overflowing nature of God’s provision. It’s a call to live out of the overflow of His grace, trusting that He will not only meet our needs, but that He provides ALL that we need for ALL He calls us to do!
  2. Biblical Foundation of Abundance
    1. "Now to him who is able to do above and beyond all that we ask or think according to the power that works in us—to him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus to all generations, forever and ever. Amen." - Ephesians 3:20-21 CSB

      1. "God’s strength at work in us is more than enough to achieve the impossible."

        1. "And my God will supply all your needs according to his riches in glory in Christ Jesus." - Philippians 4:19 CSB
      2. "In Christ, we live not in scarcity but in sufficiency, with more than enough to fulfill His will."

        1. "And God is able to make every grace overflow to you, so that in every way, always having everything you need, you may excel in every good work." - 2 Corinthians 9:8 CSB (*Memorize*)
      3. "His overflowing grace is more than enough to equip us for every good work."
        1. God’s strength, God's riches, God's grace.
      4. The Mindset: Provision
        1. A provision mindset trusts in God as our ultimate provider, steering clear of the traps of a poverty mindset—rooted in fear and lack—and the pitfalls of a prosperity mindset, which can lead to greed and entitlement. Instead, it embraces God’s sufficiency, empowering us to meet our needs and generously bless others.
      5. The Impact: Bold Faith for Big Impact
        1. When the church embraces a “More Than Enough” outlook, it fosters bold faith and a vision for impacting the world. This Kingdom mindset enables the church to invest confidently in Kingdom initiatives—sending missionaries, training disciple-makers, caring for orphans around the world, and supporting local foster families. Trusting that God will provide abundantly as we step out, the church can multiply its support for those in need and extend Christ’s love to every corner of Boulder and beyond.

How to Embrace “More than Enough” in Our Lives

Recognize God’s Provision
Reject a Scarcity Mindset
Respond with Bold Faith

  1. How does this speak to my current reality?
  2. What is something God has called me to do that I’ve had a scarcity mindset?
  3. How can I come alongside the vision in 2025 to help reach the lost and make disciples in Boulder and around the world?
