Passage: Hebrews 13:8
“Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today, and forever.”
We cannot put our faith and dependence on things that are temporary, we can only put our hope on that which is eternal. I say this without minimizing the loss and significant grief many are feeling in our community.
I can only imagine the moments where families huddle together in tears, weeping over possessions that carry so much family heritage and significance that they can never get back. Moments where parents try to teach their children the value of life, while at the same time mourn over the loss of memorable possessions.
Possessions carry with them memories. And to many, there’s a real fear of memories being lost and heirlooms that carry family traditions that will no longer be able to be passed onto future generations.
Story: Items stolen from our car and sitting with our kids
As much as we cherish and enjoy possessions, they are mere shadows or reflections of the things that matter most. They have value and we acknowledge them as a blessing, but what matters most is life, and even more, a life with purpose.
Today we give thanks to God for the lives that were saved from this tragedy and we take a moment to come back to what matters most. If you’re here and you are questioning your purpose and what matters most then you came to the right place.
Song: God On The Mountain
The God of the mountains, He’s still God in the valleys. When things go wrong, He’ll make them right. And the God of the good times, He’s still God in the bad times. The God of the day, is still God in the night.
